Bishop Martin Drennan
To be honest, his decision hurts survivors but also hurts the church's image more as they continue to be seen as insensitive to the people abused and out of touch with the public. As far as I'm concerned anything that damages the "credibility" of the church further is a good thing. I think the church should be dismantled. It's lost all moral authority and dwindling attendances at mass is further evidence that the church is loosing its iron grip on the people of this country. Given the amount of immigration we've had during the Celtic Tiger years it's amazing that we still have to be subjected to the angelus twice a day on our national broadcaster.
Anyway, stay in your post Martin because the longer you stay the more damage you inflict upon your evil, corrupt organisation!

Finally!
The Murphy report specifically dealt with a few 'sample' cases which would suggest that paedophile activity is widespread throughout the church. We know that many other cases have been reported in the US, Australia and in the UK so this is a problem that is not going to be solved overnight with the resignation of just one Bishop.
And now that Bishop Murray has finally resigned the question remains... will the church make any effort to weed out the paedophiles that remain in office as it would appear to me that the church has a very big problem on its hands.

Surprised? Sadly, no.
"He was deeply disturbed and distressed by its contents," the statement said. "The Holy Father shares the outrage, betrayal and shame felt by so many of the faithful in Ireland."
So? If you're that fucking disturbed and distressed why hasn't any action been taken against any member of the clergy here???? What the fuck is going on???? Yet again we see a situation in some ways similar to the corruption exhibited by our banks where the architects of the downfall walk away with hefty bonuses and the taxpayer are left to sort out the mess.
Maybe we need to take things in our own hands and express our 'displeasure' at the way the church have handled the paedophile priests who have abused so many and gotten away with it. A demand for justice appears to fall on deaf ears yet again...

Murray continues to stall for time
It's a disgrace that he's named in the report but refuses to resign claiming a few days ago that his conscience was clear. He now looks forward to a second Sunday of mass since the report was issued, he or the church clearly don't give a damn about the victims of child sexual abuse perpetrated by the priests. These sick bastards profess love and goodwill, lecture us on morality and behind closed doors, protected by 'canon' law, they carry out their depraved, sickening acts of abuse against the most vunerable of society... the children.
Go now Murray. The church will look after you in your enforced retirement from all the money they have taken from the poor down the years...

Murray insists his conscience is clear
How is your conscience over the tragic suicide of Peter McCloskey?
Peter McCloskey, a victim of paedophile priest Fr Denis Daly, sadly took his own life on April 1st 2006 just days after the failure of a mediation meeting with a number of clergy including Bishop Murray. Peter travelled to Australia in 2004 to view the file on Fr Daly as Daly had spent 30 years in the country before returning to Ireland. The file detailed a number of incidents of sexual abuse and also contained correspondence between the Australian church and their Irish counterparts. Clearly the church here knew about Fr Daly's activities but chose to do nothing. When Peter returned to Ireland armed with information on Fr Daly's activities he attempted to take the matter up with Bishop Murray but was dismissed by Murray and threatened with legal action by the clergy. Nice people...
Judge Yvonne Murphy made it clear in her report based on the testimony of victims of "his "unacceptable" and "inexcusable" behaviour in failing to fully investigate allegations about Fr Tom Naughton made in Valleymount in 1983 and a failure to communicate these allegations after official complaints emerged from Donnycarney later on." He also played a role in the controversial attempt to prevent the publication of a damning report into abuse in the Cloynes diocese.
It would now appear that Bishop Murray has done absolutely nothing to assist the victims of clerical sexual abuse.
His refusal to step down is a continued insult to the victims he knowingly failed to protect. It also shows a complete inertia by the Vatican to deal with these criminals and continues to send all the wrong signals about their desire to deal with this ongoing obscene scandal.

The cover up continues
The longer this continues, the less likely he will leave. Why aren't the clergy named in the Murphy report immediately removed from their positions by the vatican? As I mentioned yesterday it would appear that criminal prosecutions are unlikely so it seems that these evil bastards will hang on to their jobs after all!
Day by day I lose faith with this country. An evil religious, a corrupted banking system, an inept government powerless to do anything except pour taxpayers money into Nama to support the wealthy... what is going to be done about the clergy that are still in positions of power?? And more importantly, what is happening to the victims??? As usual, the victim is cast aside, ignored while the debate on 'what to do' rages on....

The stinking cesspool that is Ireland
The other piece of bad news today was in the Irish Independent. According to the newspaper... "Legal sources last night poured cold water on the prospect of senior members of the hierarchy being held criminally responsible for their failure to protect children from paedophile priests, as a previous garda investigation had ruled out such prosecutions."
What is going on in this country??? We have an inept government that praises the vatican, that has walked us into a recession, people are losing their jobs and homes at the same time as banks are being bailed out by an ever dwindling number of taxpayers and now this! Can anyone be held accountable for anything in this country??? This is the most frustrating thing about living in Ireland, nobody, and I mean nobody is accountable or responsible for any wrong doing. They all get off scot free! Amazing!! Looks like there's only going to be one way to get your pound of flesh and that'll be by direct action against the church. I'll leave you to decide how to go about that...
I'm a survivor...
The collusion of the Church and Garda in protecting these paedophiles is beyond comprehension. Why the Gardai allowed the church to hide behind 'canon' law is amazing although not totally unbelievable. The Gardai are a lazy shower of bastards and the less work for them the better. They never even bothered to contact me after I reported and showed them the damage that was done to my car by a taxi driver so I doubt they'd activiely persue a paedophile priest!
But still the clergy plead innocence! Bishop Murray of Limerick gave a grovelling press conference the text of which can be read here...
http://www.limerickdiocese.org/report_statement.pdf
Then another bishop chimes in, this time the bishop of Killaloe, Willie Walsh, stating in an interview on RTE 1 radio programme 'Morning Ireland' that...
“But I do know at the moment there has been a gross misreading of the Dublin report in relation to Bishop Murray and there has been a very serious misreading of that. I appeal to people to, if they’re going to speak on that issue, to study very carefully exactly the terms of the Dublin report.”
He said he was “quite uncomfortable with this kind of public trial. I’d have to ask, is it about healing for survivors or is it about the desire that we need to get a head on a plate?” He hadn’t had time to examine the report in detail “but I do know, I do know for a fact, some of the interpretation put on that and being placed against Bishop Murray is a misreading of the report. I do know that from somebody who has read in detail the report and I am satisfied with that.”
Does this fool realise that Murray failed to properly investigate a claim that a paedophile priest Tom Naughton, was acting improperly with altar boys and as a result allowed the paedophile to continue his abuse of children unchecked???!!! Surely he must realise this huge oversight by Murray would had an impact on Naughton's victims... but no... he bleats on about the hounding of a good bishop! Where's the sympathy for the victims???? It's almost laughable if it weren't so serious. These bastards are so delusional they think they don't need to resign their positions... even the vatican didn't consider the abuse of children seriously enough to warrant the courtesy of a reply to the Commision's request for information on the priests reported by survivors to the comission.
